Alcoa has an exciting opportunity for an Aerospace Application Engineer to work within our Global Rolled Products division. Global Rolled Products is a dynamic global organization that offers the widest variety of aluminum plate and sheet in the world. GRP is made up of Alcoa's rolling operations around the world with manufacturing and commercial sites in North America, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Asia, Australia and Russia. GRP is an approximately $8 billion global business. As suppliers to the aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, building and construction, industrial, and packaging and consumer goods markets, our high-quality materials are the foundation for many products that touch everyday life.


The position will be a home based office located in the Seattle, WA metro area and will report to the Global Aerospace Technical Director. The Aerospace Application Engineer North America West Coast will be responsible for the following activities:



  • Close technology cooperation with various OEMs Materials & Process Team to support Alcoa Advanced Products / Alloys promotions and applications / specifications

  • Alcoa Multi BU Application Engineering function to lead Products promotion / application in close interaction with Alcoa Products Managers and Alcoa Technical Center ATC Development Team

  • Close technical interaction with OEMs Manufacturing in new technologies and with OEMs Corrosion and Coating Team in advanced Al and Al-Li products corrosion resistance assessment

  • International activities mostly Japan and including opportunities in Korea

  • Development of comprehensive complex documents / presentations showing Alcoa Product Technical Offer

  • Influence and product development in connection with OEMs application opportunities

  • Strong technical presentation to differentiate Alcoa from other competitors

  • Recommend to Alcoa Aerospace Commercial Organization current and future program opportunities to support development of best Product Development to support OEMs


Necessary Skills:



  • Ability to work as team leader / member with Alcoa Products Managers, Plant Metallurgists, Quality Inspectors, Alcoa ATC R&D & Development representatives as well as OEMs Materials & Process, Design, Manufacturing, R&D and Quality representatives is required. Flexibility, leadership and travel ability are required

  • Adaptability to multi-cultural environment (USA, Japan, Korea)

  • Outstanding communication, analytical and synthesis skills, sense of effectiveness, high commitment and results oriented attitude

  • Excellent management and human relationship skills with all levels of Alcoa and OEMs organization, talent to make good technical presentations

  • Ability to function independently and flexibility to adapt to conditions applicable to multinational environment

  • Possess natural authority and leadership to manage multifunctional responsibilities and tasks, with sense of team work and best appreciation of complex political situations

  • This position will be home based located in Seattle WA metro area (with regular visit to ATI Davenport Works)

    Basic Qualifications



    • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Materials Science, Metallic Materials Corrosion and Coating Engineering

    • At least 5 years working experience (PHD work being included as working experience)

    • Thorough understanding of Aerospace Products Properties and Aircraft Structure Design

    • Proven Leadership experience

    • Translation of specific aircraft information in facts base data to identify material quantities, business opportunities.

    • Proven knowledge and competency regarding plant process and plant personnel that are vital to support the NPD process

      Preferred Qualifications



      • MS or PHD in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Materials Science, Metallic Materials Corrosion and Coating Engineering
