Detailed Description

Applies diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in area of assignments. Make decisions on engineering problems and methods and represents the department to resolve important questions. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences or disciplines, including practical field experience. Consults supervisor or principal engineer concerning unusual problems and developments. Mentor Staff and Associate Engineers.


Key Accountabilities


-Applies company standards and practices to all design work.

-Develop system-operating parameters for complex systems to meet company and customer needs.

-Establishes and reviews test procedures and assesses new technology, material and equipment.

-Frame engineering/operational problems and propose solutions.

-Monitor engineering activities and coordinate other activities related to field construction projects.

-Monitor system performance and prepare long and short-term facility plans including costs.

-Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under limited time constraints.

-Prepare complex written procedures to facilitate construction, maintenance, and operation of gas transmission electrical, controls and instrumentation systems.

-Provide complex analysis, design, and specification and cost estimates for gas transmission electrical, controls and instrumentation systems.

-Provides technical support to field as needed, particularly to optimize efficiency and reliability of equipment used in compression of natural gas.

-Contribute to the development of the budget and containment of project costs.

-Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) training and apply CI tools and methodologies to improve output of job assignments and work processes.

Qualifications


-Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

-Minimum of seven years of job-related experience, with increasing level of responsibility.

-Experience in gas transmission electrical, controls and instrumentation systems design preferred.

-Professional Engineer registration is desired.

-Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline, including spreadsheet, database and word processing applications.

-Must have a valid driver’s license, provide a suitable automobile for use on Company business, and meet Company driving standards.

-Ability to develop and interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics, including one-line drawings, panel drawings, ladder logic and other design documents.

-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.

-Effective in self-management of time with a demonstrated personal commitment to work.

-Knowledge of specification, design, installation, pressure testing and commissioning of gas-handling piping and equipment including heating, regulation, flow control, measurement, dehydration and compression equipment.

-Knowledge of process instrumentation, control, programmable logic controllers and electric power supply including generator and UPS back-up for gas handling systems and auxiliary equipment.

-Knowledge of gas industry codes and standards including ISA Standards, Michigan Gas Safety Standards, ASME Piping and Pressure Vessel Code and National Electric Code as applicable to discipline.
