Detailed Description

Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices in area of assignments. Make decisions on engineering problems and methods with supervisory review. Requires the use of techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences or disciplines, including practical field experience. Consults higher level engineers or Supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments. May guide or coordinate the work of associate engineers.


Key Accountabilities


-Apply company standards and practices to all design work

-Review and assess new technology, materials and equipment

-Frame engineering/operational problems and propose solutions

-Monitor and coordinate engineering related activities as related to field construction projects

-Monitor system performance and prepare long and short-term facility plans including costs

-Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under limited time constraints

-Prepare written procedures to facilitate construction, maintenance, pipeline integrity assessments and operation of gas transmission systems

-Provide analysis, design, specification and cost estimates for gas transmission systems

-Provide technical support to field as needed

-Prepare and present technical reports on projects

-Contribute to the development of the budget and containment of project costs

-Plan, develop scope of work and manage pipeline integrity assessment projects

-Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) training and apply CI tools and methodologies to improve output of job assignments and work processes


Qualifications


-Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

-Experience in pipeline design and/or pipeline integrity management preferred.

-Minimum of three to seven years of job-related experience.

-Professional Engineer registration is desired.

-Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline including EXCEL, WORD, VISO and ACCESS database.

-Must have a valid driver’s license, provide a suitable automobile for use on Company business, and meet Company driving standards.

-Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics and other design documents

-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.

-Effective in self-management of time with a demonstrated personal commitment to work.

-Knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of gas pipeline system including transmission pipeline, gas/liquid separation, heating and flow/pressure regulation, measurement and odorization.

-Knowledge of planning and execution of pipeline integrity management tasks including ILI and DA, pipeline remediation, threat identification, risk assessment and records management.

-Knowledge of industry codes and standards including Michigan Gas Safety Standards, ASME Piping Codes, National Electric Code and DTE Gas Company Distribution & Transmission Systems Standards and Procedures.
