About the Opportunity
The BI Developer's primary responsibility is to provide hands-on design and implementation expertise around data warehouse, data marts and business intelligence reporting data and the ETL sub systems for the Enterprise Reporting (ER) team.
Responsibilities
* Perform analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of Enterprise Reporting solutions under the direction of the BI Architect and in coordination with Project/Program Manager
* Development of complete data warehouse reporting and business intelligence solutions for Fortune 500 clients.
* Develop data warehouses, data marts, OLAP cubes, reports, and dashboards for BI and Mobile BI Solutions
* Design, maintain, monitor, and ETL solutions including, Informatica and SSIS, to incrementally load Enterprise Data Warehouse and Enterprise Reporting systems.
* Provide a creative source of ideas/solutions to address problems – strategic and tactical.
* Design the necessary automated and robust processes to launch, support and enhance the ER suite.
* Assist with supporting, migrating and refactoring reports, dashboards, and mobile BI solutions.
* Contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of data warehouse team, through scripts, tool code, component development or methodology enhancement.
* Develops, maintains, monitors, and tune the performance of the SSAS OLAP cubes and data marts
* Cooperate with the Quality Assurance team to define test cases, metrics, and resolve questions about test results; assist Quality Assurance team with the maintenance and integrity of the QA environment.
* Help build positive relationships between business users and IT staff and between various teams in the IT function.
* Work in a team environment. Clearly communicate problem/resolution
* Assist in defining software development project plans, including scoping, scheduling, providing time estimates for programming tasks and implementation plans and schedules.
* Maintain a current awareness of technological developments and trends as it relates to databases, development methodologies and tools, especially in the BI, Data Warehousing and ETL space
* Develop technical documentation to define the system components, development environment and implementation planning/strategies.
* Deliver high-quality solutions to business owners to ensure alignment of technical solution with business objectives
Qualifications
* Excellent knowledge of SQL Server 2008 stack (SSRS, SSAS, SSIS). Visual Studio BIDS, TFS.
* Previous Knowledge of or experience with Oracle and/or Informatica helpful.
* Knowledge of other BI tools very useful, including Change Data Capture tools
* Experience developing multi-dimensional data models and awareness of the advantages and limitations of Star Schema and Snowflake schema designs.
* Solid ETL development, SSAS development, SSRS reporting experience all based off of intricate understanding of business process and measures.
* Creation & tuning of Stored Procedure and MDX queries, Report development, SSIS package development, ad-hoc reporting in response to business reporting initiatives.
* OLTP data modeling, process flow, stored procedure creation/tuning, ETL, strong application team interaction including understanding of the underlying data structures.
* Ability to quickly discern the most relevant facts and recommend the quickest, most practical and safest approach to resolving an issue with a program or database.
* Excellent impact-analysis skills and discipline. Carefully analyzes the existing code base as part of each design effort, to avoid redundancy and inconsistency and maximize code reuse. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Able to decompose and solve problems at the appropriate level within the system, keeping in mind the higher-level structures and their requirements and dependencies with adjoining subsystems.
* Strong logical/analytical skills with a keen ability to anticipate and avoid problems.
* Work well within a team environment, and have the will and the ability to succeed in an environment that includes offshore development. Frequent night and weekend work is required for offshore development management and assistance with scheduled code releases.
* Ability to work within tight deadlines and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
* Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) and an ability to communicate with internal and external customers and all levels of management, including communicating technical information to nontechnical audiences.
* Attention to detail and the ability to manage several tasks at once.
* Clear understanding of Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology and respective experience with its application in design and development phases
* Excellent understanding of coding methods and best practices. The software engineer's code must be worthy of being held up as an example for others to follow, in terms of readability, consistency, adherence to standards, and performance.
* Recognizes good opportunities for code and module reuse, and ensures that the code is designed and implemented accordingly.
* Ability to review the designs, code and test plans of other engineers and developers.
* Strong listening skills; ability to capture requirements expressed in design meetings.
* Flexible and adaptable in regard to learning and understanding new technologies.
* Highly self motivated and directed
* Previous experience of designing, developing and enhancing large scale SQL Server 2008 R2 data warehouses, preferably in a multi-terabyte environment.
* Experience dealing with a large BI User Community ( 3,000+ users ) in a high volume, high visibility environment.
* Experience in performance tuning, application monitoring and support of production applications.
* Experience working with offshore teams preferred.
* 5+ (Sr. Dev) years of overall IT/software development experience
* At least 4+ years of pure, hands on BI development experience strongly preferred.
* At least 3+ years in the Microsoft development platform including Visual Studio 2010, Transact SQL, C#,, ASP.NET 2.0 or later strongly preferred.
* Development experience in MS SQL Server with good software methodology/practices. Working knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL preferred.
