Digital Media Engineer 318624



Responsibilities

The Digital Media Engineer (DME) is responsible for designing, engineering, evaluating, testing, and supporting digital media solutions created by the exiting VZ Media Factory platforms and ensuring the content meets the quality standards defined by VDMS and/or the Content Provider (CP) or Digital Media Retailer (DMR) who may receive this content. The CE will be an SME to provide end-to-end content engineering support in Media Transformation & Content Workflow Management (Signiant, Aspera, Telestream Vantage/Agility, Harmonic Rhozet, Amberfin, Digital Rapids Kayak, Envivio, OriginDigital, thePlatform, RadiantGrid and other new media technology). The DME must have previous experience working with Studios, Broadcasting, VOD, LIVE, Linear/Broadcast, Transformation/Automation, OTT, Packaging, Post-Publishing, DAM, and CDN Distribution technologies.


The CE will help design & configure workflows for Ingest, Media transformation, Package, and Delivery based on business logic and process management projects or multi-project improvement programs with high business involvement to Basic system integration support with strong expertise in both file based encoding and broadcast technologies. Additionally, the engineer in this role will have strong digital video, audio and metadata knowledge. This experience will also include in-depth understanding and use of transcoding technologies, video/audio editing software as well as software used for digital content quality inspection. This position is part of a small, integral group and is able to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team.


The CE shows strong initiative and is comfortable both with designing, configuring and using software and hardware used in video content production, and with interacting with clients and vendors to provide end-to-end media factory solutions. This role accepts that external priorities can change rapidly, and is able to shift operations without stress or resistance, constantly seeking to improve efficiency and quality of technical operations.


This role reports to the Content Manager with the Digital Media Operations Center (DMOC).


The Content Engineer will:



  • Work cross-functionally and support Professional Services/Sales/Product/Technology/QC/UAT/Ops & Service Assurance Teams in VDMS to provide content engineering SME, designing, testing digital media solutions, and support content factory support operations as required to help coordinate multi-point content quality inspections for remediation

  • Support On-boarding, end-to-end testing and evaluation of new customer content requirements by evaluating the content specifications, designing media solutions, and analyzing the output from existing VDMS platforms

  • Document and refine transform processes and configurations associated with requirements based on results coming from the content quality inspections

  • Assist in the testing of a wide variety of video, audio and metadata applications running on both hardware and software



  • Perform Quality Control analysis of client material



  • Identify, prioritize, resolve, document and communicate both technical and operational issues without micro-management

  • Utilize specialized content monitoring tools to evaluate and diagnose problems with content related to video, audio and technical composition

  • Provide thorough, detailed, clear and concise written documentation

  • Interact with clients as part of operational activities such as customer support, technical and operational integration, and system maintenance

  • Coordinate and manage diverse technical and operational tasks

  • Maintain high satisfaction (both internal and external) through successful and timely resolution of technical and operational problems

  • Submit regular status updates and reports to their supervisor

  • Analyze potential solutions for economic and resource costs as well as purely technical usefulness

  • Assist and/or perform system administration, maintenance and support activities with the QC Area and/or Operational Support Environment (OSE) which includes the content quality control workstations and technologies

  • Support research and testing efforts of new technology products

  • Work closely with network planning and engineering to define requirements and process to deploy new technologies into the production environment

  • Knowledge of digital video, audio, metadata and the post-production environment


Provides leadership and subject matter expertise

Manages large complex additions and changes to the Mobile Switching Centers (MSC), using standard and nonstandard processes.

Provides Subject Matter Expertise on all aspects of the data switch engineering.

Acts as a leader of engineers in the work group.

Trains new team members.

Leads multiple complex projects. Expected to lead the most complex and/or high impact projects.

Manages entire projects for network builds, modifying configurations, refining designs, and troubleshooting issues/analyzing problems.

Involved in troubleshooting process, working with operations who contact data engineers for help.

Builds network, configures designs, compiles system performance statsall to grow network ahead of demand.

Responsible for planning, execution and completion of assigned projects.

Typically manages multiple projects at one time.

Manages both internal and external resources.

Interfaces with all levels of management.

Uses independent judgment and discretion to make decisions in the best interest of the business.

Ensures projects stay within budget.

Responsible for the release of contractors who do not meet contractual performance standards.

Provides oversight of the work of Engineers.

Utilizes experience and knowledge/education to perf


Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other related degree. 6 plus years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry.


Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.


Strong analytic, interpersonal and communication skills are required

Minimum supervision over work product. Works independently on routine and non-routine research and reporting functions.


7-10 years expertise in Media Transformation & Content Workflow Management (Signiant, Aspera, Telestream Vantage/Agility, Harmonic WFS/Rhozet, Amberfin, Digital Rapids, Invinio, Digital Rapids, Concurrent and/or other new media technology)



  • Experience working with Studios, Broadcasting, VOD, LIVE, Linear, OTT, Post-Publishing, and Distribution, etc.

  • Must have the right focus towards best practices like workflow design & coding standards (Rapid time-to-value and improved user productivity), quality, documentation, design, etc

  • Design & configure workflows for Ingest, Media transformation, Package, and Delivery based on business logic and process management projects or multi-project improvement programs with high business involvement to Basic system integration supportExpertise in both file based encoding and broadcast technologies

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to offer multiple solutions to technical and operational problems and challenges.

  • Strong project management and SDLC / POC support capabilities, strong analytical and design ability

  • Ability to evaluate media factory problems, design and test solutions, and estimate resolution turn-around times, either independently or in collaboration with other team members

  • Experienced in the evaluation and selection of software and hardware used in a digital content ecosystem

  • Experience deploying and maintaining network and server infrastructure in a data center environment

  • Working knowledge of Unix, Linux, Windows and Macintosh operating systems

  • Working knowledge of Media factory based BPM, Workflow (WFS) Management, DAM Ingest, Transcoding, Packaging, and Distribution systems

  • Desired experience working with Java, JSF, Javascript, JDBC, JMS, Webservices, and databases (SQL, Oracle, Postgres, etc).

  • Working knowledge of Metadata tools, XML, General Expressions, BPEL, BPD and Coach Framework

  • Experience with IBM BPM, Profile Generator, Process Designer & IBM Product Stacks (WPS 6.x, 7.5 and/or Lombardi Teamworks)

  • Experience designing SOA components and provide extended support for high-volume process automation

  • Detail-oriented and capable of multi-tasking, self-directed; with proven ability to prioritize tasks

  • Knowledge of industry standard formats for digital media (e.g., AAF, MXF, etc.)

  • Extensive experience and expertise with file transcoding/compression systems such as Harmonics, Rhozet, Telestream Vantage/Agility, Digital Rapids, Envivio, Inlet, Amberfin, Elemental, and new media technology

  • Knowledge of video file formats and distribution standards

  • Knowledge of Quality Control and editing tools such as FinalCut Pro, Avid, Cerify and Manzanita as well as operational monitoring/reporting tools

  • Fluency with all basic MS Windows Office components (Word, Excel, Outlook, IE), advanced knowledge of these along with some experience of Visio and Project is desirable
