AMC has a 96.5% quality rating (which exceeds state and national averages) and is a regional Level I Trauma Center that receives patients from 67 other hospitals.

Atlanta Medical Center's Laboratory Services department offers a wide range of services to include: histology, cytology, microbiology, blood bank as well as general lab. The laboratory department focuses on customer service and quality of tests results and our lab is CAP and AABB accredited. Our phlebotomy department utilizes a tube system for ER and ICU draws and uses the Cerna system.


Position is responsible for:


1. Performs venipunture and/or capillary sticks per department policy

2. Investigates and resolves pending and incomplete work

3. Evaluates specimen adequacy according to department guidelines

4. Performing a high number of difficult sticks to include the following patient populations:

Geriatric

Infants

Dialysis

ICU

5. Determines most appropriate site for sticks incorporating

6. Accurately enters draws into Cerna system.

Qualifications


Position requires 1-3 years hospital experience. Certification as a Phlebotomist and experience in a nursing home setting are preferred. Knowledge of order of draw and experience in processing of specimens are preferred. The successful candidate will have:


1. Ability to collect blood specimens through venipuncture and skin puncture

2. Ability to communicate effectively in explaining procedures to patients

3. Ability to follow oral and written instructions

4. Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time

5. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, patients, and physicians

6. Ability to maintain excellent customer service while under pressure

7. Ability to stick up to 30 patients for am draws plus floor assignment.

8. Ability to conduct heel sticks on infants

9. Ability to draw specimens on critical patients that have already been stuck multiple times on the same day.
