WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?
- Engages in the development, interpretation, implementation and support of several different types of statistical modeling and data mining techniques
- Consults with clients on the use of mathematical statistics, assessing modeling needs and defining project scope
- Applies programming skills to make use of computer intensive analysis techniques
- Uses knowledge of business areas and research skills to address a diverse range of real-world business issues and to solve business problems
WHAT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION?
- Assists on projects/requests on routine statistical/business/research issues and studies
- Independently extracts and transforms data for use in analysis
- Works with increasing autonomy on requests/projects/problems of complex statistical/business/research issues and studies
- Uses knowledge and experience with statistical techniques to specify parameters of modeling project or analysis
- Consults on financial services and insurance-related business, regulatory and public policy issues or organizational and human performance issues, or consumer behavior issues
ITEMS OF NOTE
- Academic background in quantitative disciplines and methodologies such as applied and computational statistics, text and data mining, artificial intelligence, econometrics, operations research, psychometrics, experimental design, multivariate analysis, measurement theory, multidimensional scaling, combinatorial data analysis, hierarchical linear models, structural equation models, decision theory, time series analysis, and cluster analysis at a level ordinarily acquired through post-graduate education
- Knowledge of and experience with at least one major computer programming language, or advanced syntax in a major statistical package
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
State Farm Insurance is seeking applicants to join a multidisciplinary team with a data science emphasis. In this role you will be exploring internal and external data, developing statistical models, and prescribing decision options to assist leadership take advantage of the predicted future without compromising other priorities.
Qualification Requirements:
*Proven track record and experience with statistical modeling/machine learning
algorithms such as Random Forest, Nave Bayes, Neural Networks, SVM, K-
means, libraries such as scikit-learn or Weka and familiarity with
MapReduce/Hadoop, parallel processing, and Amazon Web Services.
*Knowledge and experience using statistical software in a mainframe and/or client-
server environment, such as SAS or R, aptitude in one or more general-purpose
programming languages (Python preferred), and proficiency at querying relational
databases (SQL).
*Strong interpersonal skill and the ability to communicate results through a variety of
avenues, such as reports, presentations and data visualization
techniques/software packages
Key Job Responsibilities:
*Serves as a skilled consultant/researcher on important operational and tactical
issues
*Works with clients to analyze needs for analytic information and converts them into
action items, requests or projects.
*Researches appropriateness and availability of data resources required for each
project
*Accumulates and develops databases to be used for analytic development
*Applies the most appropriate modeling and analytic techniques to the problem at
hand
*Provides critical interpretation of findings
