RN - LACTATION CONSULTANT - PRN



Description

The Lactation Consultant makes clinical assessments, and uses current lactation theories and research to develop evidence-based feeding plans that address individual feeding issues while respecting the family's breast feeding goals. Provides support and instruction that is developmentally appropriate for adolescents and adults. Able to assess understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching. Demonstrates the ability to perform a concise nursing assessment and reassesses and documents the proposed revision of interventions and desired outcomes. Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff about changes in the patient status. Provides direct care to assigned patients.


Qualifications



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • BSN preferred.

  • 1 - 3 years clinical experience.

  • Current Professional Nurse License issued and/or recognized by Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

  • BLS and NRP from AHA.

  • Certified Lactation Consultant by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

  • Excellent teaching, verbal & written communication skills essential.

  • Experience in teaching 1 to 1 or in small groups.

  • Understanding of diverse cultural, physical, emotional, and psychological response to birthing, lactation and parenting.
