Software Development Manager - Kindle Social - Machine Learning, Distributed Systems and Mobile Apps

Kindle Community is seeking a manager to lead a team building a Kindle reading social platform. The platform connects like-minded readers. This team has a broad charter. You will build a selection of machine learning based value-additions, Amazon-scale distributed systems using AWS and custom-technologies, search technologies inter-company workflows, data analytics systems and mobile apps. You will manage a combination of software engineers, testers and program managers. This is a new space and there is a great deal of opportunity for a creative technical and people leader to innovate and drive technical direction. A successful candidate will have an established background in managing teams that develop customer-facing experiences, a strong technical ability, a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment, high creativity, and strong analytical reasoning skills. Key Responsibilities: Work closely with the engineers and product managers to design and develop the best technical solutions to meet business needs. Prepare technical designs to achieve our product vision. Develop services and device software in Java, C++, and some Ruby. Document and present technical solutions to product stakeholders. Manage and execute against project plans and delivery commitments.

Basic Qualifications

You will have expertise in distributed system architecture or mobile app development You have a BS or MS in Computer Science or a related degree You have 5+ years of experience in object-oriented design and development experience in one or more of: C++, Java or Ruby. You have 3 + years experience managing development/technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

You have sharp analytical abilities, proven design skills and a track record of delivery You have excellent written communication and verbal agility. You have a passion for intuitive user interface design and powerful user experiences You have experience in applying machine learning techniques to real-world problems.
