Team Leader Production



Leads team members to manage all daily operations within the elevator. Manage production staff to attain production and quality goals. Identifies problems or bottlenecks in production processes and resolves issues. Ensures production resources including materials, equipment and human resources are available as needed to maintain production schedules. Supports continuous improvement goals in safety, quality, cost and customer service.

Position Responsibilities



  • Oversight of all unloading, blending, transferring, load out and daily inventory of wheat and feed within the elevator and mill.

  • Ensure all wheat is of milling quality and maximizing bushel per hour capacity and usage of equipment. Safety, sanitation and task management systems are being followed.

  • Management of wheat to meet 1st pass quality specifications to the mill.

  • Supervises activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation to ensure continuous production operations. Participates in development of preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering department. Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. Learns and supervises USDA grain grading standards.

  • Oversees the timely delivery of wheat to the mill and feed system operation. Controls and effectively utilizes the production capacity, manpower and equipment and outside resources through planning, organizing and scheduling to minimize demurrage and other losses; works within the framework of the budget to optimize company profitability.

  • Maintain cost effective programs and practices that are consistent with plants such as center lining, 5S and continuous improvement.

  • Communication & Business Support – Communicate and manage specific enterprise initiatives as they pertain to the Elevator Department to plant management, corporate elevator resource and grain desk.

  • Ensure total employee involvement and linkages of individual and team activities to losses and the business need.

  • Maintain compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, quality specifications, safety standards and sanitation practices.

  • Motivate and enhance skills of direct reports and associates

  • Other projects as assigned.


Position Qualifications



  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Business or related field required.

  • Two years+ grain handling experience required.

  • One year+ supervisory experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes. TPM knowledge highly preferred.

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Excellent oral and written skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Experience in a union facility is a plus

  • Experience with several computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
