The applications engineer plans, organizes, and executes the applications development activities necessary to enable PST's Operations facilities to provide services/products to customers. Provides leadership and technical guidance for the identification, planning, and execution of new customer applications, new product introduction process (NPI), utilizing PST's process tools such as Find- Assess-Solve-Transfer (FAST) to facilitate this activity. Works with Operations leadership to perform the following duties:

• Spends 50% or more of the time in new product introductions as identified in FAST.

• Organizes and creates documentation necessary for new applications, including job instructions, job routers, job safety analyses, standard operating procedures, etc.

• Supports manufacturing variance analysis (MVA). Also responsible for interpretation of customer specification and blueprints associated with new and existing applications.

• Works with Quality organization to reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and achieve acceptable first pass yield.

• Works as integral team member on productivity projects utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma practices.

• Designs and implements tooling concepts for thermal spray coating, grit blasting and other applications.

• Maintains an expertise with the process equipment in Operations. Develops process parameters necessary to set up new applications with an emphasis on repeatable and efficient processes

Requires a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering with 5-7 years of manufacturing plant experience and proven ability to combine theoretical training with practical experience in a "hands-on" environment. Preferred experience includes any or all of the following thermal spray coatings application development, Autodesk inventor CAD or 3D modeling, robotic programming (ABB preferred.) Incumbent must also have effective project management skills with the ability to complete multiple projects independently.

Must have personal computer proficiency, business administration know-how, and a working knowledge of quality control systems. Six Sigma trained, green belt or black belt preferred. Must be able to communicate ideas orally and in writing, as incumbent participates in manufacturing teams and interacts with all levels of Company personnel as well as with contractors, suppliers, and customers.
