Launch Manager


Job Introduction

The Launch Manager will be the divisional lead responsible for the launch of new products, ideas and manufacturing processes. Undertakes overall divisional product launch responsibility, all work carried out with minimum supervision from the quote phase through serial development, production & close down phases. Will continue to provide support on variety of programs requiring APQP and Engineering direction.


Major Responsibilities

• Work with the GPMS Core Team to provide technical leadership and project control from initial concept design and feasibility assessment through serial production. Key responsibilities include development and implementation of manufacturing processes within the Division. • Responsible for prototype builds and to assure that product design, manufacturing, assembly and other problems are detected at the earliest stages of the product development cycle. • Participate in GPMS meetings to ensure that commitments made to customers are properly addressed and fulfilled through use of APQP & GPMS processes. • Support activities related to prototype part delivery, and PPAP commitments are met as promised/expected by the customer • Plan, co-ordinate, lead, and participate with various multi-disciplined teams addressing objectives associated with the manufacturing and assembly process, productivity, volume outputs, scrap and rework, quality, safety, and delivery commitments throughout the product life cycle (Q2-CD2). • Support the Division to complete all RFQ's on a timely basis while meeting the customer's requirements. • Define equipment specifications, the statement of work, and procurement of various quotations for approval. • Develop, maintain and execute implementation plans for new equipment. • Take a leadership role in the coordination, facilitation, development and implementation of 8D's corrective actions. • Ensure manufacturing and assembly processes comply with pertinent health, safety and environmental legislation, practices and procedures. • Develop and maintain documentation and actions to include but not limited to:  Quality initiatives such as TS16949, Q1, and ISO14001  APQP process (DFMEA, PFMEA, DFA, DFM, VE/VA, SPC), Continuous Improvement activities, OEE activities and supports / complies with company GPMS requirements  Operator Instructions, Quality Alerts, Work Instructions  Rework, Scrap, Waste, House cleaning initiatives to reduce cost  Manufacturing and Process Engineering Open Issues. • Initiate contact with new suppliers and subcontractors. • Perform supervisory control over assigned personnel. • Provide engineering support to other departments within the Company as directed by the Engineering Manager. • Initiate plans and ideas for cost reduction and/or quality improvement measures. • Maintain proper filing system (including electronic/computer files) to ensure all information is properly stored and easily retrieved. • Travel outside the city/country will be required. Work "off-site" at a customer location for varying periods of time may be required. • Responsible to protect own health and safety by working in compliance with established safe work practices and procedures. • Responsible for looking for new ways to improve safety, quality and productivity. • Meet APQP requirements for assigned scope of projects • Work in compliance with OSHA regulations • Document all activities as required • Adhere to all company guidelines for Emergency Evacuation to ensure employee safety • Any additional responsibilities deemed necessary by management


Knowledge and Education

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, minimum of three (3) years direct applicable experience in the management and leadership of technical projects from conception to successful implementation OR; • College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent) with minimum five (5) years experience in the management and leadership of technical projects from conception to successful implementation • General Powertrain experience will be an asset. • Experience in Blueprint Reading and Advanced Measuring Techniques, computer literate. • CAD/CAE experience and proficient (Preferably UG, CATIA, I-DEAS, FLUENT, ETC) is an asset. Knowledge of ANSI, SAE, QS-9000, and TS 16949, and other industry/customer related standards. • Knowledge of GD&T, QFD, Design for Manufacturing, VE/VA, DOE, Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA). • Must be able to communicate fluently in written and spoken English. Also require strong presentation, interpersonal and negotiating skills. • Must have good organizational skills, be a self-starter and a team player. • Strong analytical and decision making skills are a must. • Work requires creative thinking skills; versatility, perseverance/patience, enthusiasm, optimism and the ability to overcome daily challenges. • Knowledge of assembly, machining and welding.
