Machine Programmer

Our North American operations, located in Novi, MI, is looking for a Machine Programmer for our service department with experience in Siemens software programming to help assist our customers in the United States and Canada. The Service Programmer, based in Metro Detroit, will help program, install, and maintain machines built in Germany and sent over to our various customers’ facilities.


The Machine Programmer will have the following responsibilities:



  • Help to install machines throughout the US and Canada at the customer’s facility.



  • Travel periodically throughout North America for routine maintenance and service visits as requested by individual customers.



  • Troubleshoot problems with machines and components as the need arises. Coordinate data flow with our engineers in Germany to help identify the main cause of each situation and quickly solve the problem.



  • Program machines remotely from Weil’s Novi, MI office and at the customer’s facility.



  • International travel periodically throughout the year to our headquarters in Germany for product training.



  • Be very customer-oriented. The Machine Programmer should understand the customer’s needs and best interests and be able to figure out the best way to address them.


The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:



  • Service experience (at least 3 years) in the machine tool industry, preferably with metal forming technology.



  • Vocational education in programming and / or electrical engineering.



  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, as different situations may present themselves at the same time.



  • Experience with Siemens PLC, HMI and Drives. (Simatic/Sinumerik/ Step7/ familiar with Siemens drives)



  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present technical information to the customer.



  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to help ensure projects move along in a timely manner.



  • Ability to speak / understand German is a plus.
