Lead Machine Designer - The ideal candidate will will lead and coordinate tooling and equipment projects relating to new products and improvment activites afftecting safety, quality, productivity and cost as well as develops solutions to complex and diverse technical problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

Lead Machine Designer - Additional Responsibilities:

Analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, specialized techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. This position may have supervisory responsibility associated with it.

The lead machine designer will seek out problems (Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost) affecting the performance of the production group.

Leads problem solving activities using P-D-C-A and background in TPS (Lean).

Develops procedures and standards to optimize tooling and equipment specification, execution and evaluation.

Responsible for static and dynamic design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment and tooling.

Responsible for evaluating, selecting, and ordering equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of company products.

Oversees or may participate in the installation, modification, upgrade, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.

Studies equipment performance and reliability.

Provides technical support to the equipment repair and process engineering groups.

Defines and writes preventative maintenance schedules.

Applies mathematical formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop designs.

Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and final detail drawings.

Responsible for developing and applying CAD software engineering methods, in the investigation and solution of technical problems.

Develop strategy for equipment control software programs.

Modifies tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve processing or equipment performance.

Studies specification and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, services requirements and manufacturing procedure and cost.

Plans and organizes project assignments of substantial variety and complexity. Initiates or maintains schedule for projects and project milestones.

Works without appreciable direction. Works independently on highly specialized projects with long range objectives. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives of assignment. Selects methods and techniques to lead a project to completion. Develops departmental policies and procedures, new techniques and standards. Work is reviewed from a relatively long- term perspective, for desired results.

Business Relationships and Project Management

Interfaces with senior management on significant matters, often requiring the coordination of activity across organizational units. May lead specialized project teams which have a broad impact on the company utilizing cross-functional resources. Provides leadership to business units.


Guides the successful completion of major programs and often functions in a project leadership role. Effects of decisions are long-lasting and influence the future course of the organization. Errors in judgement or failure to achieve results would result in the expenditure of large amounts of company resources.
