NLP Research Engineer - San Diego, CA

Position Description:


This position will work closely with medical language linguists, in a lead capacity, to develop techniques for state-of-the-art medical NLP. Responsibilities will include design, development, refinement, and implementation of algorithms for document tokenization, segmentation, lexical analysis, natural language parsing, and conceptual indexing. Responsibilities will include research and identification of new technologies, systems and/or applications of relevance to company NLP goals. Work will involve all aspects of software design and development from system requirements definition to implementation, integration and testing. Work will involve the development, enhancement, and maintenance of complex software, with thorough documentation of sophisticated algorithms and procedures for installation and maintenance. The NLP Engineer reports to the Manager of NLP Innovation.

Qualifications:


Requirements:


Bachelor's degree or higher in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science, or a Computational Linguistics-related discipline

2+ years of professional NLP experience

Experience with C++, Java, and/or C#

Experience with Python and/or Perl

Knowledge of computational linguistics, including symbolic approaches to morphology, syntax, and semantics

Experience with at least two NLP sub-domains: development & analysis of large text corpora, information extraction, named entity recognition, text preprocessing, ontological reasoning, and semantic or grammatical disambiguation

Assets:


Experience with Lex/Yacc, ANTLR, or other parser generator framework

Experience with XML & XSLT

Experience with SQL

Knowledge and experience with statistical and machine learning approaches to NLP
