Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. is recruiting for a Scientist for their Immunology Discovery group, located in La Jolla, CA


Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops treatments that improve the health of people worldwide. Research and development areas encompass novel therapeutics for neurologic and neuropsychiatric disorders, oncology, infectious disease, cardiovascular disorders, metabolic disorders, and immunologic and inflammatory disorders.


The Scientist, will be an innovative member of the Immunology Discovery - Exploratory Platforms research group based in La Jolla, CA. This individual’s primary responsibility will be to provide scientific leadership for discovery of novel pharmacological agents to prevent or intercept autoimmune diseases, by pursuing high risk/high reward projects focusing on the discovery of small molecules that modulate protein-protein interactions driving the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, and possibly psoriasis and IBD. The successful candidate will have a solid background in biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology including molecular modeling, with application to immunology. The Scientist’s responsibilities will also include origination and defense of ideas for new and on-going projects, the design and prosecution of experimental strategies, closely overseeing the generation, analysis and accurate recording of data, and presentation of findings to peer scientists. Direct experience with major cell surface and intracellular targets involved in the modulation of immune cell responses is a must, as well as conceptual and hands-on understanding of protein ligand-receptor interactions. Strong collaboration and communication skills and an ability to perform in the context of a multidisciplinary, geographically disperse team are required.

Qualifications


A minimum of a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics or other quantitative biology fields with a focus on immunology and specifically, molecular mechanisms controlling autoimmunity is required. A minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience in any of the above named fields is also required. Familiarity with peak technologies and computational approaches to the structural dissection of ligand-receptor systems, with a special focus on protein-protein interactions is required. A demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of an interactive team is required. This individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be able to effectively translate technical jargon to non-technical cross-functional team members. It is strongly preferred to have primary author publications in peer-reviewed journals.


This position is located in La Jolla, CA and may require up to 15% domestic and international travel.
