The Head of Neuroscience Biomarkers (HNB) manages a team responsible for the discovery, optimization and clinical application of biomarkers for the Neuroscience therapeutic area. The HNB and his/her team will formulate and implement biomarker strategies for the neuroscience therapeutic foci including Alzheimer&'s disease, mood disorders, schizophrenia and chronic pain. Specifically, the HNB provides scientific and technical leadership in choosing disease biomarkers for diagnosis, patient stratification and prognosis; and compound-specific biomarkers to assess target engagement, pharmacodynamics and dose selection. The HNB reports to the global head of neuroscience discovery and is a member of the discovery leadership team.


The HNB role is global and engages with all Janssen neuroscience biomarker projects and partners. The HNB has line management for biomarker leaders, biomarker research specialists, biomarker analytics and biomarker laboratory scientists / physicians. This management includes accountability for global biomarker strategy and biomarker study /protocol design. The HNB plans and prioritizes budget for biomarker team and projects. He/she ensures that these programs are compliant and executed within the goals and processes of the broader organization. The HNB liaises with internal R&D and commercial colleagues, especially discovery, early development, clinical development, and diagnostics ensure alignment across the end-to-end neuroscience portfolio. The HNB interfaces and collaborates with academia, consortia and commercial vendors to support broadly neuroscience biomarker and diagnostic capabilities. The HNB tracks the evolving landscape of neuropsychiatric disease biomarker technology - including cutting-edge research in academic labs, disruptive capabilities under in start-up ventures, and R&D pipelines of larger competitors. The HNB participates in strategic and technical prioritization and reviews of licensing candidates and coordinates biomarker personnel for due diligence of potential licensing partners.


Qualifications


A Ph.D. and / or M.D. with at least 12 years of relevant neuroscience experience is required


Training and experience in biomarker discovery and application to drug development or to treatment response prediction is required


Experience in drug development, clinical trials or pharmacogenomics research in pharmaceutical industry or academia; management of international clinical development programs is preferred


Specific experiences and insights into how biomarker platforms and technologies are integrated to provide practical solutions of clinical utility is required


Management experience in supervising direct reports is required


Team player with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills is required


Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills are required


Must have a networking and relationship-building skill and a well-developed network among opinion leaders and specialists in the field of Biomarkers and Diagnostics in Europe and the U.S.


Must have the ability for strategic thinking and contingency planning with respect to neuroscience R&D objectives


Must be fluent in written and spoken English


Working knowledge of the use of Microsoft suite of software products including Excel and Word is required


Experience and knowledge of Good Clinical Practices and regulatory requirements for the conduct of clinical trials and for the appropriate contributions to regulatory filings is required
