Director, ICU Nursing



Description

Provides leadership and oversight to al departmental employees. Ensures the delivery of optimal patient care through the coordination of clinical activities, staff supervision, personnel leadership, and department organization. Demonstrates a service excellence approach and communicates this expectation to staff. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by achieving financial targets of designated department(s). Leads and coaches the development and growth of a safety culture in the organization. The Director must be able to prioritize work and duties well and must work well under stressful situations. Must demonstrate good communication and customer service skills with a variety of patients, physicians, and other health care providers both internal and external to the organization. Must make accurate decisions and judgments quickly. Needs to exhibit team oriented communication and partner well with co-workers.


Provides input for formulating policies and procedures for the Department. Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs by attending meetings, workshops and conventions to enrich personal knowledge, growth and skill. Serves on and attends hospital committees as appointed. Performs additional duties as assigned.


Consistently follows policies to create a Culture of Safety:



  • Improving the accuracy of patient identification

  • Improving medication safety / medication scanning when applicable

  • Reducing the risk of health care-associated infections

  • Prevention and reporting of medical errors

  • Accurately and completely reconciling medications across the continuum of care

  • Reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls

  • Consistent use of universal time out protocol where applicable

  • Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect.

  • Restraint Safety

  • Utilizes Esrm to document and trend clinical events and clinical concerns requiring investigation

  • Meeting core measure criteria, quality outcome metrics, fall reduction and wound surveillance

  • Demonstrates and supports a minimal lift culture in the patient handling process

  • Uses the Just Culture program for investigations and problem resolution


Qualifications



  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing with completion of Master degree.

  • BLS and ACLS from AHA required. Current professional nurse license issue and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas required.

  • Clinical specialty certification (CCRN) highly desired.

  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook.

  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills required.

  • Current regulatory knowledge (CMS & Joint Commission) and current evidence based practice knowledge.

  • Strong experience with service excellence culture
