The ER Technician assists patients with activities of daily living, provides supportive nursing care, performs tasks as delegated by the RN, and assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Works collaboratively with staff to foster quality patient care. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of Bayshore Medical Center / East Houston Regional Medical Center.
License / Certifications / Requirements
1. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
2. Certification as an EMT or Paramedic preferred.
Consideration will be given to other types of relevant training and/or experience.
Education:
High school graduate or GED preferred. Completion of and/or current enrollment in an EMT, Paramedic and/or military medic program preferred. Must successfully complete an EKG class. Consideration will be given to other types of relevant training and/or experience.
Experience:
Six months of prior hospital and/or EMS experience preferred. EKG and phlebotomy experience preferred. Consideration will be given to other types of relevant training and/or experience.
Special Qualifications
Successful completion of hospital and unit specific orientation. Effective oral and written communication skills. Familiarity with computers. Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure quality patient care. Strong problem solving and customer service skills. Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English. Will be required to work weekdays, weekends and holidays. Due to changes in patient census, may be required to leave early, rotate days off or help other departments.
