IT System Engineer



Position Summary


The IT System Engineer will be responsible for the administration of all IT systems from an infrastructure standpoint including operating systems, server hardware, storage devices, and ancillary network support.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • Core duty is to maintain the IT system infrastructure and provide day-to-day monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all IT systems.

  • Assist the Sr. System Engineer with the enterprise management of Active Directory for all Pinnacle Entertainment locations.

  • Manage user accounts for all Pinnacle Entertainment locations including Active Directory or other applications as required.

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosis of system problems that impact the IT environment.

  • Detailed knowledge of all versions of Windows Server Operating Systems.

  • In-depth understanding of Windows Server roles and services including DNS, DHCP, CA, Active Directory, IIS, File & Print services, RDP, and Terminal Server.

  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Clustering and all concepts to support a redundant or fault tolerant server infrastructure.

  • Installation of modifications, upgrades, patches, or hotfixes to all IT systems.

  • Expert level in regards to virtualization technologies with ability to evaluate currently deployed virtual environments and make recommendations for efficiency improvements.

  • Identify emerging system technologies and recommend implementation as necessary for overall improvements to the IT infrastructure.

  • Enforcing existing IT policies and recommendations for changes to improve the user experience or increase security, functionality, or stability of the IT environment.

  • Maintains appropriate system documentation and inventory of all IT assets including hardware and software installed on servers or desktop environments.

  • Ability to perform daily data backups to various backup media types including optical, tape, or SAN snapshot technology.

  • Candidate should be able to evaluate current Disaster Recovery plans and make recommendations for improvements a necessary.

  • Must be able to conduct random restores of data files to validate the integrity of backup files stored on tape, SAN snapshots, or optical media.

  • Ability to evaluate all levels of RAID and understand the performance impact of each level as they pertain to database servers, file servers, or application servers.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:


Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Solid knowledge of Information Technology principles and practices.

  • Ability to evaluate potential upgrades to applications or systems and advise on impact of implementation.

  • Proficient with VMware products and understanding of virtualization technology including recommending opportunities to increase conversions to virtual environments.

  • Required knowledge of VMware functionality including VMotion, HA, DRS, performance monitoring, virtual switching, and virtual environment optimization.

  • Proficient with all vendors of server hardware including Dell, HP, and IBM.

  • Understanding of network protocols and networking fundamentals and how they relate to the IT infrastructure and system support.

  • Proficient in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of NetApp SAN devices.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Visio and have strong documentation skills.

  • Must possess excellent problem solving skills and demonstrate the ability to use proven troubleshooting methodologies.

  • Detailed understanding of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) including configuration, monitoring, and optimization.

  • Understanding of encryption technology including PKI, DES, 3DES, WEP, WPA, WPA2, Certificate Authorities, SSL Certificates, and Microsoft Certificate Manager.

  • Assist in maintaining compliance for outside vendor Remote Access tracking and reporting.

  • Must be experienced and knowledgeable of all principles of system technology, including but not limited to architecture and design, operations, storage, and hardware.

  • Must demonstrate a code of ethics and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality in dealing with sensitive data and proprietary information.

  • Customer first; candidate must demonstrate exemplary customer service skills.


Required Natural Behaviors



  • Must be able to stand for a minimum (8) hour shift.

  • Must be able to fulfill extensive on-call duties as required.

  • Must be able to work nights and weekends as required.

  • Must represent the IT Department and Pinnacle Entertainment with the utmost level of integrity and professionalism.


Required Education and Work Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science or equivalent experience in conjunction with industry standard certifications.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a large IT infrastructure supporting Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, and VMware.

  • Must possess or be able to achieve within 1 year of hire, Microsoft MCSE, MCITP, VCP, NCDA, NCIE, or comparable certification approved by the Director of IT.
