Medical Technologist (Core Lab) - PT1 Days

Atlanta Medical Center's Laboratory Services department offers a wide range of services to include: histology, cytology, microbiology, blood bank as well as general lab. The laboratory department focuses on customer service and quality of tests results and our lab is CAP and AABB accredited. Our employees enjoy:

The Medical Technologist will perform standardized to complex laboratory tests in the general lab Section; assignments often require technical expertise and independent judgement. Some of the duties include:


1. Verifies proper specimen/test/patient identification

2. Takes responsibility for completion of daily routine duties assigned to work area

3. Investigates and resolves pending and incomplete work, clerical and technical discrepancies

4. Performs and records quality control, takes and documents appropriate action

5. Troubleshoots problems with procedures, Quality Control, instruments and computer

6. Recognizes unreasonable results/ patient information and reacts appropriately

7. Participates in proficiency testing

8. Meets expected requirements of Laboratory Continuing Education program

9. Performs appropriate repeat testing when abnormal results are found

10. Judges specimen adequacy/ integrity

11. Reports and investigates computer problems and instrument problems

12. Completes testing within turn-around time guidelines

13. Organizes and completes several tasks simultaneously without loss of accuracy

14. Adheres to all policies to prevent the exposure of self patient or other employees to blood borne pathogen and safety hazards


Qualifications


Position requires MT (ASCP) and previous experience in general lab.


The successful candidate will have:


1. Considerable knowledge of the principles and laboratory applications.

2. Working knowledge of current laboratory facilities, methods, equipment and materials.

3. Ability to perform standard laboratory tests and examinations independently.

4. Ability to prepare laboratory records and reports.

5. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, patients, and physicians

6. Ability to perform routine and advanced testing procedures
