Amazons Legal Department and Intellectual Property team are at the forefront of protecting Amazons freedom to operate in todays complex and dynamic ecosystem. We are looking for a Patent Diligence Engineer to help us drive due diligence on patents and technologies.The successful candidate must be passionate about technology, patents, and business. Responsibilities include: Support overall patent strategy taking into consideration Amazons current and future product and technology roadmap as well as existing and planned IP programs, litigations, projects, and initiatives. Conduct external patent searches Create and apply advanced methodologies for patent characterization based on proprietary taxonomy, classifications, family status, and semantic analysis. Complete analysis of third party patents Interfacing across multiple job functions including patent attorneys, litigation attorneys, engineers, and finance Perform technical due diligence Drive the legal review process both file history and prior art review Interface with business professionals

Basic Qualifications

8 years in technology, at least 3 working specifically with patents. Understanding of patent basics including claim construction and patent law. Experience in IP mining and analyzing patents. Understanding of technologies relevant to the businesses of Amazon e-commerce, telecom, cloud computing, devices, and/or networking. Understanding of basic elements of patent valuation encumbrances, exhaustion, standard obligations, royalties, infringement, and prior-art. Experience explaining technology and patents and patent law in laymans terms to a variety of audiences. Experience with 3rd party tools like Innography for portfolio analysis and searches. Experience conducting patent landscapes. Experience managing multiple projects at once.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with IP due diligence, valuation or transactions. Assisted in IP infringement/enforcement analysis and litigation support. Understanding of basic NPV financial modeling Strong written and oral communication skills. Amazon is an Equal Opportunity Employer *LI-KGB1
