Atlanta Medical Center's Respiratory Department renders adult and neonatal care to our patient population. Our department offers mentoring and leadership opportunities for staff with students doing both adult and neonatal clinical rotations with us and also affords the potential to be involved in various clinical trials. The Respiratory Therapist provides an expert level of patient care according to physician orders and professional assessment of patient's condition, administers various types of respiratory treatment modalities, pulmonary & diagnostic adjunctive therapy, and short & long term ventilation in order to provide respiratory support to patients with breathing difficulties. We are also a Level 1 Trauma Center which keeps the Respiratory Care department very busy year round. "Trauma knows no season!"

Qualifications


Skills and Abilities:



  • Ongoing validated competencies are required as they relate to the patient needs.

  • Successful completion of orientation.

  • Ability to provide support to patients, family members and visitors, in order to enhance comfort and security.

  • Ability to respond to emergencies and unpredictable situations in a calm manner, while exercising good judgment.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal/behavioral skills.

  • Customer service orientation, to include skills in problem solving.

  • Performs data collection, analysis, computation and reports all tests performed.

  • Provide guidance and direction to students and orientees.

  • Appropriates necessary supplies; maintains gas cylinders in all critical care areas as needed.

  • Assists in the moving/transporting of patients throughout the facility for various diagnostic procedures.

  • Performs all other tasks assigned.


Most importantly, respiratory therapists will elicit and understand the patient's and family's interpretation and impact of their illness on their physical, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being. Patient and family education are critical to the overall healing process here at AMC.

Qualifications:

Must posses a minimum of 2 years of Critical Care experience to include ABG puncture and analysis, mechanical ventilatory support, airway management and other such therapeudic modalities. Need good time management skills, teamwork skills and positive attitude.
