Sr. Manager, Software Development - Search Application and Mobile Engineering

Amazon's Search and Discovery Team is hiring a talented and enthusiastic technology and product leader to run Search Application and Mobile Engineering to help deliver new and innovative features and capabilities.

We need a super-smart, customer-focused, innovative and driven senior technologist and product innovator who enjoys working in an agile, fast-paced environment on highly visible projects.

Amazon Search is working on driving a world-class set of applications for product discovery by creating new capabilities and features for customers, augmenting the services and data behind our search functionality, enhancing our user interfaces and optimizing performance across web, mobile and other devices. Our applications are powered by Java, mobile-web, native mobile and AJAX. You will be involved in solving challenges including: Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Search Relevance, Search Personalization and User Experiences across all devices for all regions around the world.

Reporting directly to the head of Search Experience, you will work as part of group of highly skilled product and technology professionals that are passionate about creating easy to use experiences from complex big data problems. You will own a Tier 1 service that drives billions of dollars in sales for hundreds of millions of customers.

You'll lead and build a talented and nimble team of engineers. You are expected to help formulate and execute market and category specific projects to continuously improve our search experience and drive new search and discovery innovations. You will work directly with various business and product teams across Amazon to develop marketing leading features and new capabilities. You will sit on the global Search Experience leadership team to help drive new ideas across the globe. Responsibilities include hiring and direct management of a cross-functional team of software and user experience engineers. You will run development and engineering, the process and quality of our services, strategic planning, project management within the team, and most importantly delivering results. Successful candidates will be strong leaders who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, make data-driven decisions, and have a consistent track record of innovative thinking and project delivery. The search team requires solid, scalable engineering, creative solutions to difficult problems and an unrelenting focus on our customers.

-Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, or equivalent

-8+ years experience planning, designing, developing and delivering software

-3+ years experience as a People Manager in a software development organization

-Experience leading multiple development teams as a 'leader of leaders'

-Hands-on experience with design and development of highly scalable solutions

-Proven track record of delivering significant results
