Unix Administrator



Responsibilities

The Unix Systems Administrator will support both the production and corporate environments and assist in planning, configuring, maintaining and supporting Unix-based servers while providing shared production support of the Unix system.


Assist in planning, configuring, maintaining and supporting Unix-based servers. This includes recommending solutions and overseeing implementation.

Provide shared production support of Unix systems.

Actively facilitate continuous improvement in the infrastructure, the team and the business overall.

Perform hardware, OS, and software troubleshooting.

Work closely with software developers to help advance development efforts.

Perform user account maintenance – dealing with end-users. That includes creating new users and troubleshooting connectivity issues.

Maintain/update system documentation.


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in a computer science or information systems field (or equivalent).

2-10 years' experience in production IT environment (Linux, preferred).

Strong team player. Knowledge and experience with hardware installations and upgrades. Never-ending desire to listen, learn and grow. Positive attitude, always willing to find the best way to solve a problem. Effective communication skills, willing to share what you learn with your teammates. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and sensitive to (sometimes aggressive) timelines. Ability and willingness to work as a productive member of a team.


Prefer knowledge and experience with RedHat Linux Systems. Knowledge and experience with standard Linux software installations and configurations, such as sendmail, ntpd, snmpd and logwatch. General understanding of and/or exposure to firewalls, routing and switching.


Requirements for Solaris Systems Administrator:
6-8 years’ experience in Unix Administration with an emphasis on Solaris O/S. Demonstrated knowledge of Solaris O/S. Knowledge and experience with hardware installations and upgrades specifically with Solaris Sparc-based systems, Solaris ZFS configuration, tuning, troubleshooting, and maintenance, installing, creating, and patching Solaris packages, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Sun Cluster 3.x, SMF, Solaris Fault Manager, Ilom/Alom/XSCF, MPxIO, IPMP, Dtrace, and Live Upgrade, Brocade Fibre Channel switches, and Hitachi SANs.
