Buyer II



Minimum Requirements:



Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or equivalent, with three years of experience.

The employee must have knowledge of common business, industrial, and trade practices with respect to sales, prices, cost comparisons, discounts, deliveries, stocks, and shipments of varied items purchased. Must also have a knowledge of commercial supply sources such as sales literature and sales representatives. Skill and tact are required in dealing with suppliers to ensure adequate and timely response to purchasing needs, and to ensure the lowest possible price is obtained. Must qualify for and maintain a government security clearance and possess a valid State issued driver's license.

Job Description:



The employee purchases commonly used "off-the-shelf" materials, supplies, equipment, and services (e.g., utilities, maintenance, and repair). Will coordinate transactions that may involve occasional modification of standard and common usage items, materials, and services, and include stipulations about unusual packing, marking, shipping, etc. Will deal directly with manufacturers, distributors, jobbers, etc., using skill and tact to ensure adequate and timely response to purchasing needs and to secure the best prices. Will facilitate purchases of a relatively large scale, particularly in the case of contracts for continuing supply over a period of time. The employee may be responsible for locating or promoting possible new sources of supply and keeping up to date information on market trends, changes in business practices in the assigned markets, and new or altered types of materials entering the market.
