Cook- Ann Arbor

Cook Needed for UPSCALE corporate cafe in Downtown Ann Arbor.

We are searching for a dynamic, outgoing, and customer orientated Prep Cook for a full -time position at our cafe located in Ann Arbor. Ideal candidate has open availability Monday- Friday, this is a full-time position in an upscale, customer orientated corporate cafe.


Position Reports to: Chef Manager


Basic Functions:

A prep cook is responsible for the daily preparation of food items in the micro kitchen, will assist in kitchen with snack, outtakes orders as well as prep for daily breakfast and lunch service (hot and cold production). Ideal candidate can follow company recipes as well as verbal/written instructions from Executive Chef Manager on site. Ideal candidate is a recent culinary grad or has a Assosicates Degree in Culinary or related fields.


Essential Functions:

1. Sets up work station according to company guidelines.

2. Prepares all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner.

3. Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the company/manager.

4. Restocks all items as needed throughout shift.

5. Cleans and maintains station in practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills.

6. Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment in station.

7. Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas.

8. Demonstrate good knife skills and safe practices

9. Must work well with others, comfortable in fast pace setting, have excellent time management.

10. Performs additional responsibilities, as requested by the Chef, Sous Chef or Manager at any time.


Qualifications/Knowledge

1. Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills.

2. Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.(Serv-Safe Certified- a Bonus)

3. Previous prep or line cook experience. Ideally at least 1 to 3 years OR have a minimum of Assosicates Degree in Culinary or related fields (HIGHLY preferred).

4. Must have strict attention to details and be able to follow recipes and instructions.

5. Must have reliable transportation to and from Downtown Ann Arbor.

6. Must be willing and able to submit to background check & drug testing prior to hire.

1. English language and professional communications skills are required.

2. Ability to take direction.

3. Ability to work in a team environment.

4. Ability to work calmly & quickly under pressure.

5. Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized.

6. Commitment to quality service, and have some food and beverage knowledge.

7. Great attention to details.


Working Conditions

1. This position will spend 100% of the time standing.

2. The individual must be able to transport on occasion and up to 25 pounds regularly.

4. Must be able speak, read and understand basic cooking directions.

5. Must be comfortable interacting with guest on a daily basis, must be professional and clean cut.

* Additional benefits to help cover parking expenses in the downtown area of Ann Arbor include as well.


All candidates MUST have OPEN availability Monday-Friday from 6:00am to 2:00pm, WEEKEND would be OFF!
