Human Resources Consultant II (Snr. Human Resources Generalist)

The main focus of this position is to provide Human Resources expertise and professional support to enhance the performance of the Great Lakes and Central District with respect to Human Resources strategy development, compensation management and workforce planning and training. The Senior Human Resources Generalist position will partner with managers and employees to provide Human Resources consultation and support on HR initiatives in the areas of employee relations, administration, performance management, employee development and legal compliance. Advise District Management and employees of relevant corporate personnel practices, policies and procedures.


This position will be located in our Taylor, Michigan facility.



  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvement in efficiency of HR services performed

  • Provides coaching, counseling and/or programs to address business issues related to areas such as development, engagement and retention

  • Coaches managers on performance management issues and the creation and implementation of performance improvement plans

  • Pro-actively manages legal risk; ensures manager and employee compliance with company policies and procedures, and governmental regulations

  • Functions as a first point of contact for employees around benefit and policy inquiries

  • Maintains compliance with state and federal employment regulations

  • Partners with head office HR staff to ensure personnel files are complete

  • Maintains company employee training records in LMS

  • Develops and conduct training programs

  • Partners with District to develop goals and objectives

  • Leads new hire orientation to include training on policies, procedures, benefits, time and attendance, Talent Management and Learning Management Systems

  • Partners with Human Resources Director with complaint investigations through to resolution

  • Administers the Workers' Compensation process through direct involvement with managers, injured employees and insurance carrier, and completes all applicable reporting requirements

  • May conduct recruitment efforts for exempt, non-exempt, intern and temporary positions

  • Develops and conducts union avoidance training

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Human Resources Director





  • Five (5) to seven (7) years related HR generalist experience, preferably in the logistics or manufacturing industry.

  • Union avoidance techniques experience

  • The individual must conform to confidentiality requirements concerning employee information and company-sensitive information

  • Strong computer literacy skills with MS Office Suite and HRIS systems

  • Talent Management experience, including Performance Management

  • Individual must possess strong time management / organization skills and work well under pressure

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with coworkers, customers, and other departmental personnel in a professional and positive manner

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to run multiple projects at one time

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
