AFT Director of Technical Operations and Infrastructure

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) is looking for a Director of Technical Operations and Infrastructure.

The AFT Technical Operations and Infrastructure group is responsible for all of the infrastructure technology which runs Amazon’s worldwide, industry-leading fulfillment systems. In addition to operating our LANs and WANs which power our fulfillment network, we operate and innovate in the areas of wireless networking, client devices, machine vision and security.

The Director of Technical Operations is also responsible for specifying our next generations of equipment, and driving material cost reductions in all aspects of infrastructure. S/he will be responsible for leading in an exceptionally talented engineering organization. The ideal candidate is a deep technologist with proven track record of building large scalable networks, a creative thinker, problem solver, teacher, learner, very comfortable with defining & setting engineering standards, and a fantastic manager of people.

As head of the technical operations group, you would play a crucial role in product scoping, roadmap and architecture discussions. You will work closely with product owners to deliver on scalable automation strategy across infrastructure products and features. You should have an uncanny ability to understand network architectures, pinpoint problem areas, uphold product quality and drive design with constant engagement with engineers and product owners.

· Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering is required.

· 10+ years of experience with Network Engineering methodologies

· 5+ years of experience of managing products, budgets and justifying resource needs to senior leaders and finance partners.

· 5+ years of experience managing a team of architects and engineers to deliver world-class network infrastructure with industry-leading scalability and resiliency.

· Proven track record of leading design delivery of large‐scale, high‐quality systems focused on the infrastructure layer of the technology stack

· Deep hands‐on technical expertise in designing and deploying massive global networks, building complex distributed systems architectures and automation of network infrastructure.

· Develops long-term strategies and influences leadership decisions.

· Deep understanding of how their functional systems interface with - and depend upon - systems throughout the company.

· Exceptional and effective verbal and written communication skills.

· Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Exceptional project management skills.


· MS or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering

· 5+ years of experience with open source technologies.

· Business management or a related degree.

· 7-10 years of related experience with large scale strategic planning within a disbursed organization.
